I used to really believe that the work was the same as dealing with the whole “life is falling apart” thing.
The tricky part is thinking you need to chase unhappiness in order to make something meaningful. Looking for the next big negative thing to build your project around. Cosplaying the tortured artist in front of your loved ones.
As if breaking something in your life will finally create that break in your work.
It’s stupid. Unsustainable. Dishonest.
Because the story was never yours to begin with.
It lives somewhere between the work and the person watching it.
And the moment you try to control it…
The moment you shape your life around the work and then use the work to justify your life…
you kill the only thing that made it real.
Just make the work and let it exist. The audience will do the rest.
